Are you relocating to Maui, Hawaii and looking for the best neighborhood to live in? Or are you simply looking for real estate investments on Maui? Allow me to help. My name is Dmitri, and I am a Maui Real Estate Agent and local resident. This incredible island has so much to offer, and I'm excited to share the best neighborhoods to live in on West Maui. As a father of 2, I know how important it is if you are looking for a family friendly neighborhood. The 3 neighborhoods that I will tell you about below are all great for investments, individuals, and families.

Kaanapali Hillside

Kaanapali Hillside is located just across the street (on the mountainside) from the infamous Kaanapali Beach, or what you may know as "Black Rock beach".
This neighborhood is fairly large, and the hillside is considered the non gated portion. The average size home in Kaanapali hillside is around 3,000 square feet. Both quiet and beautiful, Kaanapali Hillside appeals to most as it is within walking distance or a short golf cart ride from some of the world's most pristine beaches, world class resorts, Whaler's Village shopping center, and some of the best restaurants that the island has to offer! Also a great location for golf lovers as it's footsteps from Kaanapali Golf Course. This neighborhood is ideal for a vacation home or rental, due to the location and convenience. Kaanapali is a very popular area for people to stay when they visit Maui!

Kaanapali hillside is a wonderful area to reside long term and raise a family. You will find that many other families live in this neighborhood, giving you the opportunity to make lifelong connections. If you are looking for a quiet home where your children can play without a worry in the world, this area is the right fit for you!

The hillside allows you to live your best Maui life. Morning beach walks, a round of golf with some friends, enjoying a staycation at one of the beachfront resorts, or enjoying a romantic date night at Dukes, Leilani's or WaicocoThere is a superb collection of real estate investments to choose from.

Kahana Ridge

Just 10 minutes north of Kaanapali is Kahana Ridge. This neighborhood is located in Kahana, right in-between Napili and Honokawai. Almost all of the homes here have an ocean view where you can enjoy your morning coffee and watch the whales breach in the winter! This neighborhood is quiet, and very family oriented. We absolutely love the cooler weather that Kahana has to offer. You can definitely expect more rain in this area, especially in the winter months. If you find yourself rather sensitive to this island heat, this neighborhood might be a better fit for you!

Kahana Ridge is just minutes (walking or driving) from some of the world's most beautiful beaches: Napili Bay, Kapalua Bay, Ironwoods, and Flemings Beach. If you are a surfer, this neighborhood is a great location, especially during the winter where you can always find a fun wave. It's about a 5 minute drive from the renowned wave of Honolua Bay.

Kahana Ridge is another wonderful neighborhood for raising kids. A great place to walk around and enjoy the views, without too many cars passing by. There are multiple small parks that are perfect for dogs to play. If you walk right across the street, you will find a popular little coffee shop, a couple of restaurants and the gym. One minute away driving located in Napili is Maui Prepatory Academy. One of the best private schools on the island and a popular choice for the families that have relocated to this island!

Launiopoko

Launiopoko is just a 5 minute drive from Lahaina town. This neighborhood sits high on top of the west Maui mountains. Although the ocean is just a minute away, the elevation is so dramatic that you feel much higher up! The best part about Launiopoko is undoubtedly the million dollar view. Just about every single home in this neighborhood has a view where you can see the bright blue pacific ocean greet you. In the distance you will find the neighboring islands of Molokai, Lanai, and even Kaho'olawe! It is an incredibly clear area for watching the humpback whales and spotting vibrant rainbows. The sunsets get more magical each and every day. On one side you have the ocean, while on the other side you have a magnificent view of the mountains. If you take a drive up to this neighborhood, you will understand exactly what I'm talking about.

Looking to invest in acreage?

Launiopoko is one of the last places in West Maui where you can purchase large acreage. As I'm sure you may know, agricultural land is incredibly rare and difficult to come by on the West side of Maui. If you have dreamed of living on a farm, having horses, goats, or a big property with room to build on, then Launiopoko is the place for you. Although the weather is much warmer in this part of the island compared to Kahana, you will be pleasantly surprised with the wind and rain that passes through the valley of the mountain behind this neighborhood. Plus, what a great excuse to find a home with a pool!

This neighborhood is central, which makes it a great location if you like to explore all ends of the island. It's just a 25 minute to Kahului or the airport, making it convenient for visiting guests, or frequent travelers. This area also offers its residents many hiking, horseback riding, and cycling trails to explore. Launiopoko Beach Park is directly down the hill from this neighborhood. An adorable beach park for learning how to surf or enjoying family beach BBQ's.
